...and he's my very first vessel. He's about 8" tall, raised from 17g copper. I'm incredibly proud of myself for accomplishing this piece in time for the crit. I'd say I spent an alarming 40+ hours on this guy, but he is my first ever cone, spout, handle, flex shaft experience, stick soldering, and large scale metalwork. That's a lot of firsts! He looks like a fat, silly bird and my mom has commandeered him to water her plants.

Nice job! And I love how you did the handle so it's 3-dimensional and not just a flat piece.

Thanks so much! Originally he had two spouts, one for a spout and one for a handle. But then he became a pitcher instead of a teapot, and he retained his handle/spout! He's a quirky little guy.

Welcome, and the best of luck trying to make ends meet art or craft wise-a tough proposition. Most folks i know just try to get their MFA,counting on actually selling one's stuff is a crap-shoot.(Would be lucky to last out this winter, meself).

At the moment I make and sell jewelry, and I've pretty much been paying my tuition that way. I think too many people don't make it because they refuse to by flexible. One of my professors (well, all of them really) is doing incredibly well, but she's not only making her wild and crazy pieces, she recognizes the necessity of using her abilities for production and fiddly stuff as well. It's all about balance and perseverance.

Just keep on keepin' on. Good luck to you too!

Thank [link] all you've said very encouraging, but you've intuited well what my problem is(and always will be),inability and unwillingness to be guided by anything other than the plastic deformation qualities of the material that i worship-the incomparable Fe.So whining on my part is entirely silly-it's my own decision to play the part of the "tragic hero",as defined in drama rules,(a dead end). But lord, how satisfying! It's a good day to die,and all that, very glad that there are those smarter than that.Adios.

Oh dear, I do hope I haven't offended you! I truly respect the folks who do their thing and deal with the consequences, but me, I've got loans to pay and expensive obsessions to feed. There are definitely days where I jump up from my bench and shout "if I have to make one more pair of these goddamn earrings I'm going to explode!" but then my tuition bill arrives or I find some luscious stones or gorgeous yarn I can't live without and I sit myself back down.

So long as you're happy, that's truly all that matters!

By the way I was scouting out your gallery and it looks like you live smack in the middle of a bunch of very cool folks! Those snow shoes are gorgeous!

Listen, not only you haven't offended me,but quite the reverse-you gave me hope that there's still sensible, balanced people who can carry on the practice of the crafts without the idiotic grandstanding such as i don't seem to be able to separate from my life.I greatly admire your common sense, for that is what it takes to survive. Please don't mind my insane mumblings,i express myself extremely inadequately anyway. And yes,i'm surrounded by some immensely skilled and talented people.Would like to put some more of the stuff i see around out there,on this site, but folks here aren't as accepting of the internet as in a lot of places, and i'm kind of sheepish about asking, not beeing quite sure as to where i'm going with it meself.
